|On this page we continue our westward tour across the 3rd Sub, starting at Drummond, on the upper right side of the plan. The tracks appear from behind a low hill and some trees, having come down from Garrison ("and through Phosphate and Jens", from the UPPER DECKS. ) and they are running along the wide farming valley more or less following the Clark Fork river and I-90. The Drummond siding begins and the tracks sweep west into town. The small interchange "yard" serves the old banch south to Philipsburg, which is mostly used to store lumber flats. There is a stock pen and a team track in town, and I am also adding two elevators for switching fun here, due to the local agro biz that is in this valley. This is a typical western montana ranch town whcih includes a "used cow lot"....seriously! At the west end of town the siding ends as the tracks pass under a local highway, and out of view from the layout. A long run of hidden trackage runs down the left wall behind the backdrop and drops under the back hill of Austin. The track passes over the birdseye / nimrod heilx to emerge from behind the stairs into the Bearmouth area and siding. The double track follows the river, the interstate, a local road and the old MILW. grade through the narros of the Bearmouth Canyon. The area has some huge rock outcroppings and high cliffs that are well known in the region. The west end of the siding is behind an interstate rest area and there is a long storage spur as well. The tracks wind behind the low hills and disapear again. Hidden trackage takes the line down a one loop helix to Nimrod. You can continue onto the BOTTOM DECK plan from here.|
PLEASE feel free to get in touch to head out trackside or to come visit for train night.
